Golf Balls Compression & Dimples
In this section we will cover golf balls. There
are many different companies manufacturing golf balls
and with each month that passes another company has
designed a new ball that does something different
than all the rest.
In this section we'll try to distinguish between some
of these standard golf balls and some of the
traits or characteristics to look for when purchasing
a box of balls at the local golf store.
Men's Golf Balls .vs Ladies Golf Balls
Men's
golf balls are typically harder than ladies golf
balls. The difference is compression. This characteristic
of a ball simply measures it's ability to compress when
struck by the head of a golf club. This compression
actually rockets the ball off the club face after it
has been struck.
Lower compression balls work better with the
a lady's slower swing speed thus producing more distance.
Compression is only one of the factors to consider when
choosing a golf ball.
Golfers
both men and women alike need to find a ball
that feels good when struck correctly. This sounds absurd
but there are balls that feel good when driven properly
and there are balls that feel great when hit properly.
The only way to find this golf ball is to try as many
different brands until you find the ball that's right
for you.
Dimples On Golf Balls
Another factor to consider is the number ofdimples
on the ball. This is usually represented as a three
digit number found on the box itself or the balls packaging.
These dimples are mainly used to reduce drag
(air friction) on the ball as it flies through the air.
Additionally the dimples provide lift for the
ball and allows the ball to rise as it travels through
the air. The longer it travels in the air the greater
the distance on the drive.
Other than that golf balls are basically trial and
error. You'll soon see which balls work best for you
by trying new golf balls until you find one you like.
These are generally the golf balls that stay
in your bag the longest.
